Britney Spears’ masterplan is working
At an emergency hearing this week, Commissioner Scott Gordon ordered that Britney Spears won’t be allowed to drive with her children in the car anymore. After running a red light last week while driving with her children and the court appointed monitor, Kevin Federline’s lawyers set an emergency hearing which resulted in the new Britney ban. It looks like Britney’s master plan to avoid having any responsibility for her children altogether is working.
Victoria (Beckham’s) Secret
Victoria Beckham performed at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, with the rest of the spice rack as her backup. This was the first live performance of the newly reunited Spice Girls — although I suppose that they’re banking on Victoria’s “popularity” now (if popularity means being vaguely associated with crazy Tom Cruise and his poor brainwashed beard, Katie Holmes). I’m pretty sure that Victoria’s Secret only asked her to perform because her name happens to be Victoria. It’s pretty hard to find people with that name nowadays. I mean, I honestly can’t think of any other reason that they would choose a has-been pop star who can’t sing to pose and frown at people who really only want to see whether or not Heidi Klum actually has nipples.Britney Spears, driver license

Britney Spears is having a really great month for driving. According to TMZ, she drove over yet another photographer’s foot at the Four Seasons in Beverley Hills.
“The paps refused to move, despite several warnings and documented footage of how Britney rolls. Moments later, Brit shockingly rolled her new wheels over a guy’s foot.”
Okay, so according to the information that we’ve been given on Britney Spears recently, including the fact that she runs red lights with children in the car, has narcolepsy, is basically an alcoholic, and uses her cell phone while driving…why hasn’t her license been taken away? Seriously, I think that the police out there use her as entertainment. They totally have bets going about whether she’ll kill a pedestrian or a photographer first. Me? I’m just entertained by the things she wears and the fact that she feels the need to do shit to her face. Check out the lips.

Britney Spears runs a red light
It’s almost a joke, how bad of a mother Britney Spears is. The other night, while driving with her children and the court-appointed monitor in the car, Spears attempted to use her cell phone. In the process of either calling or texting someone, Spears drove through a red light, narrowly escaping a crash. According to TMZ:The Popwreck approached the light slowly on Coldwater Canyon. You then see Britney raise her cellphone to her face. It is unclear if she’s texting or making a call. She then drives into the intersection as someone outside the car screams, “Red light, red light!” Britney then turns left onto Mulholland Drive, managing to miss oncoming traffic.
It seems as though Britney is quite desperately trying to get rid of her children all together. She’s practically begging to have them taken away. The next thing we know, she’ll have “accidentally” left them locked in a Wal-Mart bathroom overnight, before going to the airport to fly to another country. Someone, please, save these children!
Claudia Schiffer gets even hotter
Claudia Schiffer stepped out of retirement to be photographed for the Chanel campaign by Karl Lagerfield in St. Tropez, France. Wearing a thong and a sheer dress, Schiffer looks amazingly much like she did ten years ago…while her ex, David Copperfield, looks older and creepier by the day. Do we need any more evidence that women age better than men?

While most women try to hide their post-pregnancy weight, the beauty gods have once again shone down on Halle Berry because apparently all her weight went straight to her boobs based on the grand view she gave the audience at the BAFTA Awards the other night. They’re so enormous that it seems like a physical impossibility that her dress is actually holding them in.
Rhianna and a random girl
Who knows when these pictures of Rhianna grabbing another girl’s boobs came out, but quite honestly I think that even if they’re from after she met Josh Hartnett he wouldn’t mind all that much. It’s funny, this sort of echoes how Rhianna likes to try to be a grown-up by saying things about Hartnett being “lovely” and then calling him “so hot” five seconds later. What do we gather from this? That she’s still a teenager…albeit a really gorgeous, famous one.

Christina Aguilera announces her pregnancy
Although everyone’s known since Paris Hilton spilled the beans, Christina Aguilera has publicly announced her pregnancy. According to OK!:“I want to get it right,” the 26-year-old is quoted as telling Glamour magazine about her future child, the first for her and hubby of two years Jordan Bratman. “I’m a lucky girl.”As for Jordan’s feelings about the news? “He’s so supportive and amazing through everything.”
Oh, so this is what happy, normal parenting looks like. Funny, I’d almost forgotten with all this Britney motherhood-on-trash nonsense.
Jessica Simpson takes a spill
Jessica Simpson nearly took a spill last night when exiting her limo at the Ace Awards in New York City. The heel of her shoe got stuck in the sidewalk and for a moment that fake veneer dropped and we got to see what she’d look like if she weren’t posing all the time. If all her shoes are this dangerous, I wouldn’t recommend buying them anytime soon.Victoria Beckham

Verdict due on Madrid train bombs
1100 (1000 GMT) on Wednesday.Twenty-eight men faced trial over the devastating nail-bomb blasts that hit four commuter trains, killing 191 people and injuring more than 1,500.
All the accused pleaded innocent during the four-month trial.
'Doubts remain'
The defendants - 19 mostly Moroccan Arabs and nine Spaniards - face charges including murder, forgery and conspiracy to commit a terrorist attack over the 11 March 2004 blasts.
The top eight defendants each face nearly 39,000 years in jail if found guilty on all charges, but under Spanish
law the maximum sentence for terrorism is 40 years.Spanish investigators say the accused were part of a local Islamist militant group inspired by al-Qaeda, but had no direct links to the terror organisation.
Fourteen of the accused went on hunger strike during the trial, in protest against what they called unjust accusations against them.
Seven suspected ringleaders died in a suicide blast in a Madrid apartment three weeks after the attacks.
Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero says he hopes the ruling will "give a definitive answer to those who have put forth absurd and despicable doubts about 11 March".
Many Spaniards still have serious doubts about who was behind the attacks, says the BBC's Danny Wood in Madrid.
Some theories - supported by a number of victims - suggest they were part of a coup d'etat involving Spain's secret services.
But many others believe the verdict will clear up such doubts, and regard it as a key step towards recovery, our correspondent says.
Memorial services are planned for a week after the verdict.
Warning over net address limits
Every device that goes online is allocated a unique IP address but the pool of numbers is finite and due to run out around 2010.A new system, called IPv6, has been awaiting roll out for 10 years.
Unless IPv6 is switched on in the coming years, some devices might not be able to go online, Mr Cerf has warned.
Mr Cerf, who played a key role in the development of the protocols which underpin the global net, said: "There is a risk of not being able to get online."
He added: "The rate of consumption of available remaining IPv4 numbers appears to be on track to run out in 2010/11."
Mr Cerf is about to step down as chairman of Icann, the body which oversees the net, and is also Google's chief internet evangelist.
Potential shortage
The current system, called IPv4 provides four billion addresses but the explosion in the number of devices which go online has led to the potential shortage.
Although IPv6 was standardised 10 years ago it has not been rolled out at speed.
While modern computers, servers, routers and other online devices are able to use IPv6, internet service providers have yet to implement the system.
"The reason they haven't - which is quite understandable - is that customers haven't asked for it yet," said Mr Cerf, adding, "my job, whether with my Icann hat on or not, is to persuade them to ask for it.
"If you don't ask for it, then when you most want it you won't have it."
IPv6 will create 340 trillion trillion trillion separate addresses, enough to satisfy demand for decades to come.
"To be clear - if we finally exhaust the IPv4 pool it doesn't mean the internet stops working. But people wanting an IPv4 address won't get one. "
"If there is an internet that does not support IPv6, not getting an IPv4 address means not getting on the net."
He added: "The appreciation of the importance of getting IPv6 into operation is very much more visible than before.
"I'm anticipating in 2008 a substantial increase of use of IPv6, introduced in parallel with IPv4."
One complicating factor is that IPv6 and IPv4 are not compatible so ISPs will have to run the two systems in parallel - adding to costs.
In Asia, governments in China, Korea and Japan have begun to lead roll out of IPv6 and the European Union is reviewing methods to encourage adoption.
Court grants Spears child visits

But the pop star must undergo random weekly drug and alcohol tests and continue to receive parenting classes.
Ms Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline was granted full custody of Sean Preston, aged two, and one-year-old Jayden James on 1 October.
In September, the same court official cited Ms Spears' "habitual, frequent and continuous" drugs and alcohol use.
Scott Gordon has previously granted Ms Spears visitation rights only to suspend them on her failure to comply with court orders. He later restored the visits, but on condition they were attended by a court-approved monitor.
In Tuesday's ruling Ms Spears was granted two afternoons and one full night per week with her two sons.
But as conditions for the visits to take place, she was also ordered to childproof her house, work out a schedule for the visits with Mr Federline, and use car seats when driving her children around.
'Chaotic'
The judgement comes after a three-hour hearing last Friday, which both Ms Spears, 25, and Mr Federline, 29, attended.
Detailed testimony was presented, from Ms Spears' parenting coach Lisa Hacker among others. Ms Hacker's report concluded that the singer loved her sons and that they were bonded to her.
But it also criticised Ms Spears, calling the atmosphere at her home "chaotic" and saying she rarely played with or spoke to the boys.
"It seems that her choices are dependent more upon what she wants to do at any given time rather than what would be more enjoyable for the children," Ms Hacker said in her assessment.
A full evaluation of the custody arrangements is not expected to be completed until mid-January, according to news agency Reuters.
Burma army 'recruiting children'
Human Rights Watch (HRW) says children as young as 10 are beaten or threatened with arrest to make them enlist.Burma has previously said it is working towards preventing the recruitment of children by the military.
HRW has urged the UN Security Council to do more to punish Burma over its alleged use of child soldiers.
False documents
The report, entitled "Sold to be Soldiers: The Recruitment and Use of Child Soldiers in Burma" says there are thousands of children in the Burmese military.
It claims that children are approached in public places by military recruiters and civilian brokers who have been promised cash rewards by the military.
The children are often beaten or threatened with arrest to force them to enlist, the report says.
It is claimed that recruiting officers routinely falsify enlistment documents to register children as being 18, the legal minimum age for recruitment.
One child quoted in the report says he was forced to lie about his age when he was recruited for a second time.
"When I said I was 16, I was slapped and he said, 'You are 18, answer 18.'
"I just wanted to go back and home and I told them, but they refused."
The child recruits are deployed to battalions after an average of 18 weeks training, the report says. They are often reportedly sent into combat immediately, or forced to take part in activities, such as burning villages, which can be classified as human rights abuses.
Jo Becker, children's rights advocate for HRW, said Burma is "literally buying and selling children" to fill the ranks.
"The government's senior generals tolerate the blatant recruitment of children and fail to punish perpetrators," she said.
"In this environment, army recruiters traffic children at will."
Ms Becker said that the recent military crackdown had put off many of those potential recruits who were not already deterred by poor conditions and low pay.
"After deploying its soldiers against Buddhist monks and other peaceful demonstrators, the government may find it even harder to find willing volunteers," she said.
The Burmese ruling junta says it has formed a high-level committee to address the issue of child soldiers.
However, Ms Becker described the committee as "a sham", saying the government must address the issue head-on and demobilise all children.
There remains widespread international concern about human rights in Burma.
Thousands of people are thought to have been detained following September's military crackdown.
The UN Security Council is due to meet soon to discuss the use of child soldiers in Burma.
HRW has accused the Security Council of not taking any action to address the issue, despite stating repeatedly that it would consider targeted sanctions.
The group has urged the UN to impose travel restrictions and arms embargos if the situation does not improve.

Apple ready to set Leopard free
The release ends months of waiting for Mac fans, after Apple pushed back the launch to finish development on its much-hyped iPhone.Early reviews for Leopard have been positive with veteran technology writer Walt Mossberg calling it "evolutionary, not revolutionary".
Apple is hoping to build on recent strong sales of its Mac computers.
In the last three months, Apple sold 2.2 million Macs, up 400,000 on its previous best quarter.
The company is touting Leopard as a Vista-beater, pointing to new features not found in the new operating system (OS) from Microsoft that drives many PCs.
Apple says there are 300 new features in Leopard, but some of them are minor tweaks to the previous OS, called Tiger, rather than fully-fledged tools or enhancements.
Writing in the Wall Street Journal, Mossberg said: "I believe it builds on Apple's quality advantage over Windows.
"In my view, Leopard is better and faster than Vista, with a set of new features that make Macs even easier to use."
In the New York Times, technology columnist David Pogue wrote: "Happy surprises, and very few disappointments, lie around every corner."
At the MacLiveExpo, being held in London, there was a mixed response from attendees on whether they would be rushing out to buy Leopard on day one.
Many of the delegates said they would wait for the operating system to "bed down" before they bought it.
"I never buy any operating system when it first comes out. I normally wait until it has been out for six months or a year," said David Ramage, a Mac user from Luton.
Vista has been quite a disappointment for many people and Leopard could be the reason many people make the switch to Macs
Nik Rawlinson, editor of MacUser magazine
He added: "Tiger does what I need it to do right now. I've not seen anything in Leopard to make me want to buy it immediately."
For developers, a new operating system means having to work to ensure their programs run smoothly on the new platform.
Ben Rudolph, director of communications at SWSoft, makers of Parallels, said Leopard was a big step forward for Apple and "would continue to drive sales of Macs".
Parallels lets users run Windows and Linux alongside OS X on a single Apple machine.
Mr Rudolph said Parallels would run smoothly under Leopard, barring any last minute changes to the code released by Apple.
"If that happens, we'll release a free, automatic update to account for them very soon after Leopard's launch," he said.
Of the new features in Leopard, Mr Rudolph said he was looking forward to being able to take advantage of his Mac's 64-bit architecture.
The new OS takes full advantage of the latest generation of chips inside Apple machines, while running applications on older processors also.
"I'm also looking forward to new user-experience features like Stacks, which should help me organise my incredibly messy desktop, and Spaces, which lets me cycle between different desktops."
Nik Rawlinson, editor of MacUser magazine, said many users would get Leopard in its first few weeks on sale.
"When Tiger was launched it earned Apple $120m very quickly and all the expectations are that sales will be double that."
He added: "Vista has been quite a disappointment for many people and Leopard could be the reason many people make the switch to Macs."
He said he felt Leopard had enough new features to distinguish itself from Microsoft's Vista.
"A lot of things that were previously only add-ons in the Mac world, such as the Apple TV interface, are now integrated into the OS.
"That is competing directly with Media Center on Windows PCs. Apple has seen that Microsoft has moved forward in some areas and is responding."
Neanderthals 'were flame-haired'

Writing in Science journal, a team of researchers extracted DNA from remains of two Neanderthals and retrieved part of an important gene called MC1R.
In modern people, a change - or mutation - in this gene causes red hair, but, until now, no one knew what hair colour our extinct relatives had.
By analysing a version of the gene in Neanderthals, scientists found that they also have sported fiery locks.
"We found a variant of MC1R in Neanderthals which is not present in modern humans, but which causes an effect on the hair similar to that seen in modern redheads," said lead author Carles Lalueza-Fox, assistant professor in genetics at the University of Barcelona.
Though once thought to have been our ancestors, the Neanderthals are now considered by many to be an evolutionary dead end.
They appear in the fossil record about 400,000 years ago and, at their peak, these squat, physically powerful hunters dominated a wide range spanning Britain and Iberia in the west, Israel in the south and Siberia in the east.
Our own species, Homo sapiens, evolved in Africa, and displaced the Neanderthals after entering Europe about 40,000 years ago. The last known evidence of Neanderthals comes from Gibraltar and is dated to between 28,000 and 24,000 years ago.
The latest research suggests that similar adaptations were evolved independently by Neanderthals and modern Europeans in response to similar environmental circumstances.
All humans carry the MC1R gene, but modern redheads possess an altered, or mutated, version of it.
This rare variant doesn't work as effectively as more common forms of the gene. This loss of function alters the chemistry of the cell, producing red hair and pale skin.
In the latest study, the authors retrieved fragments of the MC1R sequence from Neanderthal bones found at Monte Lessini in Italy and from remains unearthed at El Sidron cave in northern Spain. DNA is notoriously difficult to obtain from very old specimens such as these.
"This was a bit like finding a needle in a genomic haystack. I couldn't believe we found it the first time. I asked my friends to repeat the results. Eventually the variant was found in two separate Neanderthals in three different labs," said Dr Lalueza-Fox.
Unique variant
I
n order to test what effect it had on hair and skin colour, the researchers inserted the Neanderthal variant into a human cell called a melanocyte.Melanocytes produce the dark pigment called melanin which gives skin, hair and eyes their colour.
The researchers saw the same loss of function in the Neanderthal form of MC1R as they did in modern variants of the gene which produce red hair.
"In Neanderthals, there was probably the whole range of hair colour we see today in modern European populations, from dark to blond right through to red," Dr Lalueza-Fox told the BBC News website.
To Dr Lalueza-Fox, the observation that the Neanderthal version of the gene is not found in modern humans suggests they did not interbreed with each other, as some scientists have proposed.
